A critical component to starting the second part of your journey is to hold onto nothing, be way open and above all question everything. This includes whatever you are told, shown or accepted ways of doing things. It doesn’t mean you have to do anything outwardly different to begin with but instead start to witness internally how much you have been programmed and conditioned to act in certain ways. To question all you have been taught and the resulting beliefs that have shaped your life to date. This may feel like an overwhelming task but as always simply start where you are with whatever comes up or is presented to you in each new moment. Start slowly, maybe one area of your life to begin with as this principle is ongoing.
Another approach may be to imagine waking up to a new day with selective amnesia. You have no recollection of what you did in the past or why but then as you day unfolds look at each task or action as if for the first time. What belief (programming) came up as you were presented with a task, event or action? Why do you do the things the way you have always done them (conditioning)?
The vast majority of us have been raised and educated into a society that really doesn’t like it when you start to question everything especially your own tribe so it can be a good idea to treat this process as a self-study until you are ready and confident to live your new beliefs. There are a lot of elements within our society that have gone to extraordinary lengths to try to program, condition and control you. They want you to obey not question so rather than tackle them head on do the work internally initially and be ready to process those feelings that will inevitably come up. It would be worthwhile to consider engaging a transformation coach to assist you on this vital part of your journey. To help you get a clear picture of those beliefs that you have accepted, how they have shaped your life to date and then working together to help you process and reinstall new beliefs that will serve you going forward.
Questioning everything is key part of my second guiding principle which I have labelled “Pack Really Light” because as you start or continue the second part of your journey it is so important that you leave behind most, if not all, you have been taught to believe to date. To sum it up even further is this fitting quote from Lesson 189 in A Course of Miracles:
“SIMLPLY DO THIS. Be still and lay aside all thoughts of what you are and what your God is, all concepts you have learned about the world, all images you hold about yourself. Empty your mind of everything it thinks is either true or false, or good or bad, of every thought it judges worthy and all the ideas of which it is ashamed. Hold onto nothing. Do not bring with you one thought the past has taught, not one belief you ever learned before from anything. Forget the world, forget this course and come with wholly empty hands unto your Creator”.
